The starting point

A book and an engraving started this journey of discovery, both have the ponderous but accurate title of,

“Distinguished men of science of Great Britain, living in the years 1807-8, assembled in the Library of the Royal Institution”.

I first saw the engraving at the Herschel Museum of Astronomy in Bath and was hooked right away. Some of the names I knew, others I did not. I had to find out who they were and what they did.
